HISTORIC SITE

This house built in 1879 by José Gonzalez is the oldest adobe home still standing is southwestern Riverside County. José, a Basque from Spain, who was educated in Scotland as an accountant, came to the area with Juan Murrieta in the early 1870's. José built the house for his wife, Grace, and their children, Ormiston and Ysabel. Ysabel, born April 25, 1879, was the first white girl born to the Temecula Valley. José was Riverside County's first tax assessor.
