PLAQUE TEXT:
While the first Temecula was an Indian village, OLD TOWN was born with the building of a
railroad. Directly across the bridge was the site of the former California Southern Depot and
tracks. Off and on from 1882-1891 the line stretched from San Diego to Colton. Twice, the
tracks flooded out in Temecula Canyon, the last time in 1891 when service south ended.
